Pre-production

Treatment

Our music video is going to have a variety of things that we are going to do as we are going to do performance,dance to make the use of the beat within the song and also narrative to tell a story from the lyrics.The overall look of the music video should convey effects that make the graphics excellent.The music video will consist of mixed emotions as the narrative will show some sadness scenes however the dance and performance will change the sadness to happiness as this will be entertaining therefore making a good mixture as audiences will enjoy the dance and performance however also notice the narrative as this mixture will make it stand out.

Location

We will have two locations within our music video one being the theatre and also the roof of Sidney Stringer academy building of which we have been given permission to use.We might also use green screen to add effects to our music video such as backgrounds if possible.All the locations we are going to use will have risks.The roof will carry the most risks and is the most dangerous as the worst case scenario will be someone falling off.The theater will have minor risks such as the lighting falling etc.

As all equipment is available in the school we do not need to set a budget for buying or renting any equipment.

Mise En Scene

Within our music video our aim will be to create a image that will go with the song and a modern look therefore we will use a mixture of dark and colourful colours to convey this.The characters within the song will therefore wear modern clothing however this won't apply to the narrative as we will need to convey a different message from this.Therefore as the narrative will have less modern clothing and cheap clothing to show that the characters are not fortunate as this is what we will be trying to convey in our narrative.

We will also use props in helping us to convey the message behind the song and to help us do certain things such as the performance and dance.Even though we will not apply any make-up this will be covered by the effects of the lighting that the video will consist therefore making the overall look of the video good and adding a good effect to the graphics of the video.

Last year's BTEC students

Last year's BTEC students did the song lose yourself by Eminem.They try to convey the message and image that was conveyed by eminem since they wear clothing that represents hip hop rappers fashion e.g jackets with hoods and hats.The location also represents hip hop culture by as they did a ghetto look so that the look goes on with the song.

They also used props for their advantage when they did their narrative by using the bench and wall.They don't use any lighting within the music video as this is covered by the sun which also adds an effects to the graphics.The characters use serious face expressions so that this goes with lyrics and the overall look of the music video.

Within the music video they also use different camera shots to film all the things required in the video and they also set the scenes that they use within their music video.For the narrative of the video they show a conversation between the two characters within the video.They also do hand gestures within their performance to go with the beat.

Gorrilaz-Rock the house

Rock the house is a animated song by the gorrilaz the music video has a good background as it consists of a good beat and flutes along with the vocals.The music video also has a trumphet in the background at the start of the song.

The music video starts with a shot of a gate therefore setting the scene of the video. The camera then follows  a tricycle through the hallways of the building which leads past a door to a room where Gorillaz are performing. The music video also consists of a perfomance by female gorrillas who cheerlead.

 The lyrics in this song are party lyrics and they use a variety of camera shots to make the video look good.Some of the camera shots used are medium and longshots.The colourful animated colours used and the white background makes the overall graphics excellent.The use of  Del tha Funkee Homosapien on vocals also goes on with the background sounds.

Chris Brown-Yeah 3x

The song Yeah 3x is a song by the well known artist(Chris Brown).The song is based on a perfomance therefore it has no storyline however the lyrics convey a certain massage.The music video has a well choreographed dances and chris brown also perfomes enegetic break dancing moves.The music video is enegetic and impressive due to the well choreographed dances and music that accompanies it.

Within this music video they wear flexible clothing so they can dance comftably.The use of the streets as the location of the music video allows them to use the fixtures such as the bus to support them in their dancing.The use of the sunny day and the moonlight darkness adds an effect to the graphics of this music video.

They also use different shots particularly medium shots to show the break dancing done by Chris Brown more clearly and they also do other shots for example longshots.they also tilt and pan the camera to follow the dances and to show the things done in the music video more fully.

The music video has a variety of things that stand out however the upbeat stands ot making this song a uptempo dance song.The dance perfomance by Chris Brown also stands out making this a good perfomance video and this has a good effect to it as they use the camerato make the overall look of the perfomance look good.

The music video has a energetic feel due to the beat and perfomances.The lyrics do not apply to issue and people cannot relate to them however they are party lyrics.The song's synth chords rom the opening onwards add a good background to Chris Brown's good vocals.

Aloe Blacc-I Need A Dollar

The music video i need a dollar is based on telling a story therefore it is narrative due to the story it has behind it.The storyline of this music video conveys the character within the story as someone in need of money in order to survive.It seems as if the character is living a hard life as he seeks for things to do in order to earn a living.

This is a narrative music video however it is also filmic as it is split into two parts(with aloe Blacc singing and the other screen putting the story into actions.)The overall look and feel of the music video is compassion as the story shows a person leading a life that is not worth living.

The emotions that you get from this music video are sadness,sorrow and unhappiness due to the story conveyed in the music videos and the powerful lyrics that relates to the video.The character within the story of the music video has inexpensive clothing and no make up to show that he is in need for money therefore fulfilling what is said in the lyrics of the song.This music video has a good background of a piano and a message that some people can relate to.

It also consists of a funk/soul band and smooth vocal therefore making the lead vocals by aloe blacc to go on with the background.This makes the song sound fresh and vibrant.Overall the song has a smooth melody and this is backed up by Aloe Blacc's unique tone.Even though its a backtrack of what used to be done it sounds fresh and modern.

Schedule

The schedule of our filming has to go according to the timeline of the video therefore we start with the introduction.Till the end of the song and shoot according to the person who we have assigned to each verse.We will also include the filming of our narrative as we do the verses that they are meant for and we will also include the filming of the performance within the video.Therefore our schedule will be as the follows within the three weeks that we will be given:

Monday lesson 4 and 5

For this lesson we will be filming the chorus and performance for the introduction

Thursday lesson 1-3

Within these periods we will do the first verse which includes performance and narrative that is meant to be done in the video.

Within this week we will continue to film the first verse as it consists of a lot of work.

This lesson we will do the second chorus as it requires a different dance and performance and we will also start the second verse

we will finish by doing the chorus and the last verse with the short narrative that is required

Today's lesson

Today we are going to analyse the lyrics in our song so we can make the narrative of our video which goes with the lyrics.We are then going to form our storyboard which will consist of the different things we are going to do such as:
Performance
Narrative
We have also assigned each other as to what we are going to do in the music video and have agreed that Kashif and Haris will be doing the narrative,I will be doing the performance and part of the singing as Haris Umair will be doing the rapping.

I have also done my mood board and we are proceeding to do the camera shots we are going to use in our music video such extreme wide shots ,long shots and medium shots.

Today's group lesson

Today we have carried on working on the location and the risk assessment of our music video and as we decided our two main locations will be the theatre and the balcony of the school (Sidney stringer school).We have also discussed the certain risks that might occur within the locations that that we have chosen.The theatre has a few risks and the worst that can happen is that the lighting might fall on someone's head.However the balcony carries more risks as it is at the top floor of the building (4th floor) since the worst case might be someone falling off causing a bad injury and potentially a death.This risk assessment is vital due to the 

We have also decided on changing the song to freeze by Chris Brown and T-pain as it is more suitable for dancing and doing the performance that we want.We are also planning a storyboard for our song that will cover the performance of our music video.

We also have to decide if we need to use other locations and what the settings of our location should be in order for it to look good behind the camera.

Summary of today's lesson

Today we got in our groups to discuss the song that we are going to do and the type of video that we are going to do for example narrative,performance or concept.We also decided on the treatment of our music video in terms of the dances and other things and assigned each other as to what each of us are going to do in contribution to the music video that we are going to do.

We decided on the location of our music video and the choreography that we would like.We also choose the effects that we would like in our video and the storyline of our video.
